Lols. I drew this. Sorry artists.

Having a list of key calendar dates can be used for fun and inspiration. It’s not always about pushing sales or trying to hijack a movement. It is a great way to build some irreverent connections with our audience. Here is how I am using National Dinosaur Day to create a bit of conversation.

Dates for life not just for work

I always encourage founders and freelancer to share a bit of who they are by thinking like a magazine. One of the questions I ask is “What are your horoscope or recipes pages?” By this, I mean who are you outside of work that you can share that connects with your audience.

I’m showing how terrible I am at drawing to show a bit of ankle about me. For 2023, I want to start embracing creative skills that I am terrible at for the fun. I’m also in a household that strongly embraces dinosaurs so they have a special place in my heart.

Pick out key moments across the year

Broadly speaking there are two types of content creators. Batch creators — who sit down and do everything at once. FBTSOTP creators — Fly by the seat of their pants creators, who post as and when they feel like about what they want. Whichever camp you fall into it, look at talking about some moments across the year that mean something to you or your work.

Why? Selling your products and services all the time is a marathon. Giving yourself some titles / frameworks across the year is a great opportunity to just create without any sales pressure.

Show your values

When it comes to building your brand, I always say to start with your values. Once you have these in the place you can make sure that all of your PR & marketing content is underpinned by these.
