I’ve completed a 100-day streak on Duolingo — this is what I was surprised to learn

The unexpected wins from a language learning app

Duolingo and I started our relationship in May 2017. One month before my first son was born. The co-founder of my children is French,, so I wanted to bring them up bilingual and be part of the team.

Since I started, I’m not going to lie; I’ve blown a bit hot and cold with Duo. And the passive-aggressive notifications are notorious. Having kept up some consistency over the last few months, these are my key takeaways.

Find someone better than you.

Have you ever been at the gym or in a high-intensity fitness class, and there is that one person who is better than you? And they always pull you up?

You need to find the person who has been on Duolingo for far longer than you.

I’m a solopreneur, so many of my contemporaries are on there. I started sharing on my social media channels that I was using Duolingo, which helped me find more connections.

My friend Vicky, who helps me with my email marketing is on a 400-day streak. Seeing her past 365 days was a massive competitive incentive. It really made me feel like I could carry on. I don’t know if I have a specific time goal in mind, but I would…
